SB: Dawgs Even Series with Kentucky with 6-4 win in Lexington

The seventh-ranked Georgia softball team defeated the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday 6-4 to even the weekend series at John Cropp Stadium.

All 13 SEC softball teams wore teal or teal accents on Saturday, as the entire league recognized Alex Wilcox’s nationwide impact on the softball community and in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Wilcox was a member of the 2018 Mississippi State softball team who inspired the nation with her courageous fight against ovarian cancer. That fight ultimately took her life in the summer of 2018.

Key Quotes

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson

On today’s outcome…

“Our guys, they’re really good at responding. We had, obviously, a lot of adversity on the road in this league for a while. So, being able to come out today in a really good game. We jump out, they punch back, tie it up, and then we are able to punch back again. Credit to our offense, but also Kolten Smith was electric today.”

On coming back from yesterday’s loss…

“We weren’t happy with how we finished yesterday off, but we show up every day like it’s the most important game of the year and take it one day at a time.”

“I was trying to make every pitch the most important pitch of the game. That’s about it—taking it one pitch at a time…I’m not too worried about stats. Everytime you come out it’s a new day. I know how good I am, and I know that if I execute my pitches and get guys out, that’s all I have to do.”

On coming back from yesterday’s loss…

“That game got away from us; we beat ourselves. I definitely think it put a chip on our shoulder and we came out today on fire.”
