BSB: Dawgs split doubleheader with Ole Miss, win series
Georgia (29-10, 9-9 SEC) split Saturday’s double-header against Ole Miss with a 7-2 win in game one to clinch the SEC series followed by a 3-2 loss in game two at Foley Field.
Game 1
- Charlie Condon (4-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI) hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, as well as another in the seventh inning, marking a new season high of 26 for the All-American. This was his fourth game this season with four or more hits, and he now has 51 career home runs, which ranks tied for second in school history.
- Christian Mracna got the start for Georgia and went 3.2 innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five. Kolten Smith (5-2) retired ten straight batters in 3.1 innings with six strikeouts, to secure his fifth win of the season.
- Georgia scored five runs in the seventh inning of game one, all of which came from home runs, courtesy of Dylan Goldstein (10th), Kolby Branch (12th), and Condon.
- A crowd of 3,849 saw the Bulldogs clinch another SEC series and improve to 24-2 at home.
Game 2
- Matthew Hoskins, recovering from elbow surgery, made his first appearance of the season and first start since April 7, 2023, as he faced four batters and struck out one. Charlie Goldstein also returned to the mound for the first time since March 29 at Tennessee, striking out four of the six batters he faced.
- Corey Collins (1-3) extended his on-base streak to 27 games.
- Luke Wiltrakis allowed one run on two hits to fall to 0-1 in front of a crowd of 3,066.

“It’s always important to be able to get a home series win like this. You have to take advantage of it, just because no matter who you’re playing or where you’re playing, SEC games are going to be hard. I think the frustrating thing for us is that we’re not worried about coming out here and sweeping or anything, we’re just worried about showing up at the start of every game ready to play our best baseball. Today it didn’t quite feel like that after we didn’t make that turn today to go into that second game, but this team is doing a lot of things really well right now and we’re just going to continue to build off of those things looking forward.”

“Series wins in this league are hard to come by, even at home. I thought we played well all day. You’re not going to put up 16 or 17 runs every game. You’ve got to tip your hat to Ole Miss. All in all, I look back on this series and thought that we were trending in the right direction.”

• Sydney Chambley’s two-run home run in the fourth was her eighth home run of the season. Her triple in the sixth was the 10th of her career, moving her into a tie for eight most in Georgia history.
• All four of Georgia’s runs in game one were scored with two out.
• A sac fly scored Dallis Goodnight in the first inning of the second game. Georgia had not scored in the first inning of a game since March 31 against Arkansas. The Bulldogs improve to 15-0 when scoring in the first inning.

“After yesterday we met as a team and talked about Georgia softball and what that means and what it’s all about. One of the things Lu [Harris-Champer] used to always say was, ‘scrap, fight, and find a way.’ That’s what Georgia softball is all about. Scrap, fight, and find a way. It doesn’t always have to be pretty. And today, I thought we were as scrappy, and we fought as hard as we have all year. And. I’m just really proud of the girls.”

“Scrap, fight, and find a way – that’s what they did. Shelby [Walters] went out there and was really in command in the circle. Then Lilli [Backes], she carried the day. She just was so competitive — threw her fastest pitch of the day with the bases loaded. To really buckle down and make pitches, you know, just really proud of her. I thought Dallis [Goodnight] was outstanding, just so competitive. That play that she made there in the fifth or sixth was a game-changer. We just kept taking the punches and fighting. I thought our commitment to finding a way to get it done was as strong as it’s been all year. Couldn’t be more proud.”

WTEN: UGA sweeps Tennessee, advances to SEC final
The No. 6 Georgia women’s tennis team was dominant from start to finish as it swept No. 17 Tennessee 4-0 in the SEC Tournament semifinals at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Saturday.
