WGolf: The Bulldogs’ schedule was released by head coach Josh Brewer on Friday
“We pride ourselves on playing a schedule that challenges us, both against the best teams in the country and in different playing conditions,” Brewer said. “One of the main reasons we do so is prepare ourselves for postseason play and competing for a national championship. With the NCAA expanding to six Regionals last year, we want to make sure we do our best to compete on courses similar those sites.”
Georgia’s schedule includes four fall and six spring competitions, culminating with the 52nd annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Bulldogs will open their season on Sept. 11-12 at the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic for the third straight year. On Oct. 2-3, Georgia will venture to the Windy City Collegiate Classic for the first time since 2017. The fall campaign concludes with UGA’s third trip in as many years to the Illini Invitational and the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 9-10 and Oct. 20-22, respectively.
Georgia’s February includes trips to the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club and the San Diego State Classic. Georgia competed in each event for the first time ever in 2023.
The Bulldogs will then play in the 10th straight edition of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on March 4-6 before competing in the Valspar Invitational in Augusta on March 9-10. Georgia last competed in that event in 2018. The Bulldogs’ trip to Tallahassee, Fla., on March 15-17 for the Florida State Match-Up will be their first since 2013. Georgia won the tournament that season, providing Brewer with his first victory as a collegiate head coach.
The Liz Murphey wraps up Georgia’s regular season on March 29-30. The tournament will feature a 36-18 format with play on Friday and Saturday of Easter weekend.
The Bulldogs will open postseason play at the SEC Championships on April 12-16. For the first time since 2013, the tournament will be held at a new location. After 11 tournaments at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, the SECs will be held at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., from 2024-26. The course is a mainstay on the LPGA Tour, hosting The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. It also was site of “The Match,” which featured Tiger Woods, Rory McElroy, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in December 2022.
The six NCAA Regional sites on May 6-8, 2024 are in Auburn, Ala.; Cle Elum, Wash.; College Station, Texas; East Lansing, Mich.; Las Vegas, Nev.; and Winston-Salem, N.C. The NCAA Championships will be contested on May 15-22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
WTennis: Six tournaments spanning four states highlight the 2023 fall campaign.
The Bulldogs, entering a new era with first-year head coach Drake Bernstein, will officially begin action in the fall with a trip to Greenville, S.C., to compete in the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic (Sept. 15-17).
Georgia will then travel across the country for the Battle in the Bay Classic (Sept. 21-24) in San Francisco, Calif.
The ITA All-American Championships (Sept. 30-Oct. 8) will take place in Cary, N.C.
Entering mid-November, the ITA Southeast Regional Championships will be hosted by the University of Florida (Nov. 19-23) in Gainesville, Fla.
The fall schedule will wrap up during the first week of November at the ITA Fall National Championships (Nov. 1-5) in San Diego, Calif., and the California Tournament (Nov. 3-5) hosted by the University of San Diego.
Additionally, Georgia will compete in several ITF tournaments scattered throughout the fall season.
The Bulldogs welcome back seven returners and five letterwinners to the team, including 2023 ITA All-American junior Dasha Vidmanova, All-SEC junior Mell Reasco, and ITA Southeast Regional Rookie of the Year sophomore Anastasiia Lopata.
Following the winter break, Georgia will make its home debut when it hosts the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Jan. 26-27 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs will be the top seed followed by South Carolina, Arizona, and South Florida.
