Sedrick Van Pran has been named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy
Bulldog junior center Sedrick Van Pran has been named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy given to the nation’s top collegiate center, according to an announcement from the Rimington Trophy Committee Monday.
Van Pran, a native of New Orleans, La., joins Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson and Michigan’s Drake Nugent as the three finalists.
The Rimington Trophy Committee uses three All-America teams to determine the annual member: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). The center with the most First Team votes will be determined the winner.
Van Pran has started a team-best 43 consecutive games for the two-time defending national champion Bulldogs who have complied a 41-2 record during that three-year stretch. This season, the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week recipient has been named a game captain five times. Behind Van Pran’s performance and leadership, Georgia’s offense is averaging 38.4 points/game (No. 9 nationally) and is on pace to have a couple of the school’s best marks in history in Average Yards Per Play (7.12, No. 7 nationally) and Average Yards Per Game (482.9, No. 8 nationally).
First-year starting quarterback Carson Beck is also on a school record pace for Completion Percentage (72 percent, No. 6 nationally) while the Bulldogs are ranked eighth nationally in Sacks Allowed (0.92/g) with Van Pran at center. The Midseason All-American returned this season after being voted the team’s permanent captain as a redshirt sophomore during his team’s run to a second national championship in 2022.

On where the team is at after coming off big wins and where they still need to improve…
“We have to get better at a lot, executing shooting the three, converting the at the foul line. Many things defensively weren’t quite sharp in our last one course, knowing that we defended really well on the road (at Florida State). Like all teams, we are trying to put it all together”
On how Georgia Tech has improved…
“They’re really good. They made some adjustments after the first few games and their last couple of games. They’ve been as competitive as most teams in the country. So we’re coming off two really good wins against two Top 25 teams and they have a lot of momentum.”
On Georgia’s rivalry with Georgia Tech….
“We just mentioned those couple things, the lost from last year being one. I’m sure they are going to say the same thing about the rivalry games’ importance. Not just to us, but to our fans, as well as their fans. We lost at their place last year. That’s about it. Beyond that, it’s about this year’s Georgia Tech team and this year’s Georgia team and preparing for how to defend them and how to score against them.”
On having RJ Melendez scoring recently and how to keep it consistent…
“We’ve got to find ways to get him good looks. I think he’s got to continue to hang his hat on things that he can control; defending and rebounding at a really high level, playing really hard, and just continue to shoot it with confidence.”
On Georgia Tech’s Kowacie Reeves, who White coached at Florida…
“A lot of similar strengths to RJ. A really good player coming off a game where he got to get it going from three. He’s got a really quick high release, he can fill it up plays hard.”
