BULLDOGS BULLETIN

New-Look Bulldogs: Georgia’s 2023-24 roster includes six new freshmen and a transfer. The team has enrolled five-stars Cyrus Mahjoob and Davis Taylor, four stars Parker Jacques and Parker Mariencheck as well as Belgium-native Niels Raitu. The Bulldogs also signed USC transfer Ryan Colby, a former blue-chip prospect and All-Pac 12 honoree. Freddy Blaydes, who has a career-high International Tennis Federation world juniors ranking of No. 117 and signed with the program in September, joined the team earlier this month.

Juniors Thomas Paulsell, Miguel Perez Peña and redshirt sophomore Filipe Costa are the only three players from the 2023 SEC regular season championship team still on the roster. Five of the remaining six used their final year of eligibility last season while Ethan Quinn opted to begin his professional career after winning the NCAA singles national championship in May.

Fantastic Fall: The Bulldogs had an impressive start to the year during their fall season, with the players from the team claiming tournament titles in three different events. Colby won the Longhorn Invitational in September, Colby and Ratiu took the red draw doubles title and Paulsell earned the red draw singles title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships and Perez Peña won the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship in October.

Mariencheck rounded out the fall by going undefeated in singles at the Georgia Tech Invitational in November, while Ratiu won all of his matches in both singles and doubles at the Gamecock Kickoff at the beginning of January.

Dawgs in the Rankings: Georgia enters the dual match season ranked No. 18 nationally by the ITA. The Bulldogs are one of seven teams in the Southeastern Conference ranked in the top 25 to begin the season, joined by No. 5 South Carolina, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 10 Kentucky, No. 17 Mississippi St., No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 23 Florida.

Georgia’s successes in the fall put four athletes in the ITA singles rankings and a pair in the doubles poll. After a trio of ranked wins in Austin, Texas, Colby leads the team with a No. 36 ranking. He is closely followed by No. 41 Paulsell, who picked up his highest-ranked win against 46th-ranked Nemanja Malesevic (Miss. St.) at the Georgia Tech Invitational, and No. 43 Perez Peña. Freshman No. 112 Cyrus Mahjoob, a semifinalist at the ITA Southeast Regional, closed out the ranked Bulldogs in singles. In doubles, No. 42 Colby and Ratiu earned a spot after an 8-3 start together.

Scouting the Colonels: Eastern Kentucky will come to Athens with a 2-1 record this season, with wins over Xavier and UIC and a loss to No. 11 Kentucky. Mortiz Mayer earned ASUN Player of the Week honors after a straight-set win from court four during the team’s match against UIC and is 2-1 in singles through three matches.

Eastern Kentucky returns seven players from its 2022-23 roster, which finished 4-19 overall with a 1-7 mark in ASUN competition. The Colonels ended their season in the first round of the ASUN Conference Tournament, falling to Jacksonville State.

Monday’s matches will be the third and fourth meeting between the two programs and the first since 1971. Georgia is 2-0 against EKU, with the Bulldogs winning its first match against the Colonels in 1966 by a 7-2 score and in a 9-0 sweep in the previous meeting.

Diaz Enters 36th Season: Manuel Diaz – the SEC’s all-time wins leader with 767 career victories –  begins his 36th season as the Georgia men’s tennis coach. Diaz led the Bulldogs to another conference championship and a deep run in the NCAA tournament in 2023.

The United States Tennis Association Southern Tennis Hall of Fame coach has guided Georgia to 29 SEC championships, four NCAA national titles (1999, 2001, 2007 and 2008) and two Intercollegiate Tennis Association indoor national championships in 36 years. He has been named SEC Coach of the Year on seven occasions and the ITA National Coach of the Year three times.

Most recently, the Bulldogs captured the SEC crown with a perfect 12-0 conference record on their way to the NCAA quarterfinals. Under Diaz’s guidance, redshirt freshman Quinn became just the fourth rookie since 1977 to win the NCAA singles championship and the third Georgia player to accomplish the feat, joining the elite company of Mikael Pernfors and Matias Boeker.

I loved even more than you will get done right here. The overall look is nice, and the writing is stylish, but there’s something off about the way you write that makes me think that you should be careful what you say next. I will definitely be back again and again if you protect this hike.
