DDT: Bulldawg Illustrated’s G-Day Game Day Thread

Kickoff: 2PM EST, Channel: SEC Network+

A critical chapter in the Georgia Bulldogs football program hopes to be a story with a fairytale ending coming to a close today. Yes, GDay has arrived. Kirby Smart and the UGA coaching staff have gotten to lead this extremely talented, and in some places inexperienced, team in full spring practice. The long-term benefits of this time spent improving, learning, and getting in some reps versus live rounds will far outweigh whatever excitement the annual intrasquad scrimmage brings this afternoon.

There are a plethora of things to watch out for. How does the Georgia offensive line hold up against arguably the strength of Georgia’s entire team in the defensive line and edge rushers? Who is playing Left and Right Tackle, and how are the reps allocated? What do the raw yet immensely athletic cornerbacks for the Dawgs bring to the table? Will JT Daniels continue to grow his legend in Athens and pick up where he left off with his blistering 4 game start to his Georgia career in 2020? Also, who will step up in the receiving core with injuries to players like George Pickens, Jermaine Burton, Arian Smith, and even undisclosed issues with Darnell Washington?

One thing is for certain, above all, the Dawgs need to come out of this deal as healthy as possible. Even with the loss of their number 1 receiver in George Pickens, Georgia is the top to bottom as talented of a team as Kirby Smart has had during his tenure. There is no comparison when no comparing the collective recruiting rankings of the players that make up the 2021 squad to those of past teams. The hard work that Kirby Smart, the Georgia staff, recruiting department, and so many more involved in the program have to lead to a culminating point in time. The Dawgs have everything that is needed to make a run at a championship. Expectations are high, and they should be. Can Georgia live up to the hype and continue its evolution into a team that parallels the champions during the College Football Playoff era? They’ve been within a hair’s breadth twice. GDay will glean some insight into just how prepared these Dawgs are to change the narrative and end a 41-year drought that, regardless of what is said, is on everyone’s mind.
