Former Virgina Tech coach Frank Beamer met with the UGA beat media yesterday. Beamer was in town to speak at the UGA coaching clinic that concluded Friday. His son Shane is the new tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. The senior Beamer covered several topics including his thoughts on restricting player transfer opportunities and Beamer Ball.
 
 
I had a short conversation with Coach Beamer about some interesting Beamer family history after the media session. It seems that Frank Beamer is a direct decendant of a gentleman named Floyd Allen who was a notorious character in Southwest Virginia. Frank said he wrote a paper on the Allen saga while a student at Virginia Tech. You can read about Floyd Allen’s exploits here:
