Glen Schumann has been something of a mystery man since his arrival from Alabama as an ‘advance man’ for new head coach Kirby Smart. Schumann was part of the large administrative staff at Alabama.

Many schools, including UGA, have hired football staff who by NCAA rule can not have on-field coaching duties to assist the nine on-field coaches with administrative matters. These positions have become a training ground for young coaches.

The Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer reports that an open records request reveals Schumann’s position at UGA will be one of the assistant coaches rather than an analyst or quality control person.

Schumann will make an annual salary of $225,000. His title is listed as assistant football coach, but it’s unclear if his salary could change. The personnel report notes that the “employee is working in this position temporary until a later day that will be announced later.”
