Georgia offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Jim Chaney was named 2017 FootballScoop Quarterbacks Coach of the Year presented by AstroTurf in an announcement released Monday.

Chaney coached freshman Jake Fromm to an SEC championship season after From was forced into service to relieve the injured sophomore Jacob Eason.

Coached by Chaney with heavy input from graduate assistant Jesse Stone, Fromm ended the year completing 145-of-230 passes for 2,173 yards with 21 touchdowns against five picks while adding 107 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Fromm’s 63.0 percent completion rate placed 31st nationally, and his 9.4 yards per completion were sixth best in the country. His 168.18 efficiency rating was also the sixth best in FBS — 40 spots above the next highest freshman and 63 spots better than the next closest true freshman. Fromm’s 168.18 rating is the highest by a true freshman in the history of the FootballScoop Coach of the Year awards series. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and the ESPN Freshman All-America team.
