Georgia redshirt sophomore Rodrigo Blankenship has been named as a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Place-Kicker Award. The announcement was made on Friday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

 

A native of Marietta, GA, Blankenship was a member of UGA’s 2015 recruiting class out of Sprayberry High School. The US Army All-American has connected on 10 of 11 field goal attempts this year, a 91 % success rate, including a 49 yarder that matched his career long, and is perfect on PAT attempts going 37-for-37. He has had 41 of his 56 kickoffs go for touchbacks this season. Last year, Blankenship was named a 2016 SEC All-Freshman for his performance as a kicker going 14-for-18 on field goal attempts and a perfect 26-for-26 on PATs.

 

Blankenship is one of three players from the SEC included on the 20-man list for the Groza Award. Three finalists will be announced on November 21st. The winner of the Groza Award will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 7th.
