To Georgia, It Just Means More

Opt-outs, shmopt-outs. At this point Georgia fans all have a pretty confident feeling that the outcome of today’s match up is going to have Coach Kirby Smart and his crew throwing out oranges in just a couple of hours, but why is that? You can ask almost anyone and they’ll tell you they’re betting on Georgia. It’s obvious why, but it’s good to take a second to think about it.

The conference motto just so happens to explain the situation perfectly for the Sout Eastern Conference representatives of this year’s Capital One Orange Bowl. To Georgia, this game just means more.

Both teams in the game had legitimate dreams of playing in the last four-team rendition of the College Football Playoff. Georgia was withheld because of a loss and Florida State because of what many have speculated to be their Heisman-candidate-quarterback Jordan Travis having a season-ending injury.

You’d assume after being snubbed, spirits would be low heading into this game, and in the Seminole’s case, you’d assume correct. Over twenty of their players– legitimate contributors to both of their offense and defense– including their second and fourth string quarterback have either opted out of this game or entered the transfer portal. Georgia will not play the Florida State that was in contention for a Natty, what many folks on Twitter (or X) are labeling: FSU’s B Team.

Georgia is also going to be down twenty or so guys because of players entering the transfer portal, but those guys are leaving for the most part because they weren’t getting much playing time.

Multiple starters from Georgia’s 2023 regular season have yet to announce their NFL Draft Declarations are playing. Guy’s like Javon Bullard, Kamari Lassiter, Kendall Milton, and Carson Beck are all going to dress out and play.

To Georgia, what will happen later at around four o’clock in the afternoon isn’t just a game. It’s an opportunity to play with their brothers again. The culture Smart’s built in this locker room really is different, and now with the consolation prize that is the Orange Bowl, we get to see it. To Georgia, this just means more.
