The Bulldogs picked up their third commitment for 2018 with defensive back Chris Smith II announcing his verbal commitment to the University of Georgia shortly before 6:30 p.m. ET, Monday.

The talented athlete had over 30 scholarship offers but had narrowed down his choices to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and South Carolina; choosing to commit to the Bulldogs over those other 5 programs and on his birthday too boot.

Smith is a 5 foot 11 and 170 lbs prospect at Hapeville Charter Career Academy, College Park, GA where he plays on the defense and offense for the Hornets’ varsity high school football team at defensive back and split back. Hapeville Charter is the same Peach State high school football program that produced 2017 defensive back and Georgia signee William Poole III. 247Sports ranks Smith as a 3-star prospect at cornerback for 2018. Rivals and ESPN also both rank Smith as a 3-star defensive back. Scout rates Smith higher than those other three recruiting servicess and gives the talented DB a 4-star rating.

Smith is underrated in my opinion, and it isn’t just because of his offer list. He plays with very good technique from his footwork to his hips to his coverage skills. What I really like about Chris Smith is that he is not afraid to come up and get physical with the receiver, challenging him for position and the ball, but he is smart about it. He is also not afraid to stick his hat in there and pop the ball carrier. He is a DB that you can count on to come up in run support.

I expect his ranking to improve as the 2018 recruiting cycle gets closer to NSD and services continue to evaluate these prospects. He has performed well in the camps and I expect him to have an outstanding senior season.

Big pickup here for the Dogs for the 2018 recruiting class.
