Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

ZippyMorocco Reddawg13 Greg Poole Zippy, several years ago my brother got really interested in our family geneology.  One of the people we had trouble finding was my great-great grandfather.  We found that he was a Confederate soldier in the 13th Georgia Regiment, and of all things had died in Samaritan Hospital in Richmond and was buried in an unmarked (though not unplotted) grave in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, as were nearly 18,000 Confederate soldiers.  Since I now live in Williamsburg I was able to go over and with the help of the cemetery located my gg grandfather’s grave and put up a marker.  After 142 years in an unmarked grave my ancestor finally received the recognition he deserved from his family.  There are still an awful lot of those unmarked graves in the cemetery though.  Very sad.  Hopefully many of them will be found by their families just as we found ours and will be remembered.
