Today on Bulldawg Illustrated’s UGA Recruiting Daily we take a look at Georgia’s defensive secondary recruiting.

WHO IS COMMITTED TO UGA

Aaron Brule (Safety/LB)
Chris Smith II (CB)
Rachad Wildgoose, Jr. (Safet/CB)

As of right now, the Bulldogs have three defensive backs committed for 2018. Aaron Brule, out of Archbishop Rummel High School, Metairie, LA, is a 6 foot 1 and 210 lbs three-star prospect and the No. 30 safety according to 247’s composite ranking system. Brule could likely play at either safety or ILB at the collegiate level. Brule looks to sign his LOI on Feb. 7th.

Chris Smith II, out of Hapeville Charter Career Academy, College Park, GA, is a 5 foot 11 and 170 lbs four-star cornerback who will come up and thump the ball carrier. According to 247Sport’s composite ranking system, he is ranked as the No. 29 CB in this recruiting class. Smith will be signing his LOI on Wednesday morning during the early signing period.

Rachad Wildgoose, Jr., out of Miami-Northwestern High School, Miami, FL, is a 5 foot 11 and 190 lbs three-star prospect. He is ranked as the No. 63 safety by 247’s composite ranking system. Wildgoose hasn’t scheduled a time to sign his LOI during the early signing period and could wait till Feb. 7th.

FLIP POTENTIAL

At one time Miami commit Gilbert Frierson was considered a potential flip candidate, but it is looking less likely that will happen. He has been committed to the Hurricanes since February of last year and is also coming off an official visit at Miami from this past weekend on Dec. 15th.

UNDECLARED TARGETS

Tyson Campbell (CB)
Isaac Taylor-Stuart (CB)
Divaad Wilson (CB)

There has been a question as to how many DBs the Georgia coaching staff would take for 2018 after UGA signed 7 in 2017. Plus, freshman Mark Webb was converted from a WR to a CB, technically giving the Bulldogs 8 DBs from the 2017 class. It looks like Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker are looking to take at least 3 and possibly 4 DBs but it will depend on many spots are available. Tyson Campbell, Isaac Taylor-Stuart, and Divaad Wilson are all potential candidates. Of the three only Wilson has scheduled to announce his decision and sing during the early signing period. Both Campbell and Taylor-Stuart look like they will wait till Feb. 7th to sign their National Letters of Intent.

TODAY’S FEATURED PROSPECTS

If position ranking is noted, unless otherwise stated, it is 247 Sports latest composite ranking of the player.

TYSON CAMPBELL

CLASS: 2018

POSITION: DB – No. 3 CB

HT, WT: 6 foot 2.5, and 181 lbs

SCHOOL: American Heritage High School

CITY, STATE: Plantation, FL

STATUS: Undeclared

UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 10/31/2015.

# OFFERS: 22

NEWS & NOTES: Tyson Campbell is a phenomenal CB that the previous Bulldog coaching staff offered and the current staff has continued to recruit. His recruitment is wide open at the moment, but Georgia could have a shot here as the Dogs are in Campbell’s top five: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Miami and Ohio State.

It looked like Georgia may have been leading for Campbell for a little while, but now, it looks like the pendulum has swung back over to Miami. The Hurricanes have put everything into recruiting Campbell including the kitchen sink. Still, though, keep your eye on Campbell’s recruitment. The Hurricanes have five defensive backs currently committed including four CBs and a safety; so, will Miami take a sixth DB?

So when will Campbell announce? He is not planning on signing during the early signing period, nor, will he be an early enrollee. He is a prospect that could take his recruitment all the way until NSD 2018 on Feb. 7th. If he does that, will he still have a spot at UGA with numbers getting tight and likely to shrink even further with the early signing period? I would say yes because he is one of the top CBs in the 2018 class.

ISAAC TAYLOR-STUART

CLASS: 2018

POSITION: DB – No. 2 CB

HT, WT: 6 foot 1.5, and 193 lbs

SCHOOL: Helix High School

CITY, STATE: La Mesa, CA

STATUS: Undeclared.

UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 02/22/2017.

# OFFERS: 50

NEWS & NOTES: The Georgia coaching staff offered Isaac Taylor-Stuart back in February after National Signing Day, and the Helix High School prospect is one of the most sought-after CBs in the 2018 class with over 50 scholarship offers. A big reason why is his 6 foot 2 and 193 lbs frame as well as speed, having been clocked at 4.25 in the forty unofficially (he has ran a 4.43, officially, in Nike The Opening) as well as his athleticism and ability to cover.

Isaac put UGA in his top 12 schools he released back on Sept. 25th, but Southern Cal is considered the leader by a number of recruiting gurus and analysts. The Trojans get one of Taylor-Stuart’s last two official visits, too, on Jan. 12th. He had an official planned at Georgia on Dec. 9th, but due to the inclement winter weather in the Atlanta-metro area, he cancelled. He has rescheduled his official visit with UGA for Jan. 26th. Isaac took an official visit to Alabama on Dec. 15th and he will take an official to Southern Cal on Jan. 12th before his visit to Athens. He doesn’t plan on signing during the early signing period nor will he be an early enrollee; so, he is likely a prospect that will take his recruitment to NSD 2018 on Feb. 7th.

DIVAAD WILSON

CLASS: 2018

POSITION: DB – No. 31 CB

HT, WT: 6 foot 0, and 183 lbs

SCHOOL: Miami-Northwestern High School

CITY, STATE: Miami, FL

STATUS: Undeclared

UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 04/12/2017.

# OFFERS: 30

NEWS & NOTES: Divaad Wilson was offered by UGA back on April 12th. At the time, he was already committed to the University of Florida, since Feb. 3rd. However, he de-committed from the Gators on Nov. 30th. So where does Wilson’s recruitment stand as of today?

Wilson transferred from Monsignor Pace High School to Miami-Northwestern for his senior season, the same school that UGA commit Raschad Wildgoose, Jr. attends. Wilson took an official visit to Georgia this past weekend on Dec. 8th. He’s already taken offical visits to South Carolina on Oct. 28th and to Alabama on Nov. 18th. He took his last official to Louisville on Dec. 16th. Wilson is planning to announce his final decision and sign during the early signing period on Wednesday at around 10:00 a.m. ET. He also plans to early enrollee.
