Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

Good night all you snarling junk yard dawgs!!! Have a good one! Go dawgs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. DawgDaddy

Score Check You know his ego says he can make it to the NFL as a QB even though playing at AU will guarantee that he will not develop into an NFL QB.  Cammy was a freak but those guys only come by once a decade or so.

  3. Score Check

That would be a shame.  Just ask Nick Marshall about the TON of Money he lost out on by playing QB at the Barn.
His best bet is to concentrate 3 years at WR at UGA or DB at uf.

  4. fesx

BroDawg Lecounte and Wray need to be in his ear until his announcement.  Even better if they were camping on his front lawn!!

  5. 6 decades dawg

I was there too. Also in Knoxville the tear before. Tennessee fans humored me duting thr first half. Wanted to know why I was yelling go you silver britches (we were in red pants). Told them we called the boys silver britches — told ’em we called thr cheerleaders sugar britches. They seemed to laugh and have a little fun with me. They changed their tune after Herschel ran over bill bates and didn’t seem to appreciate my company so much after that. Me, however I enjoyed myself immensely. Never did get invited back though. Oh well I never did like them and I still don’t . Really want to put a similar beating on them this year

Just noticed that my alma mater (Thomas County Central) plays Warners Robins in Warner Robins this year.  May have to pop down to middle Georgia to cheer on my alma mater while also watching a future Dawg sling it around.  TCCHS is rumored to have a pretty strong team this year after a few somewhat down years, so it should be a good game.

Greg Poole Cant believe that ass whipping was produced by the University of Tennessee Athletic Department. I wouldn’t want anyone to see that again if I was a Vol.

  8. Lucas Rogers

Right now Clemson should be considered favorite, but once he visits that could change

  9. liliverson03

Any news on of the former Bama commit and I believe his first name might be Xavier ?

  10. Lucas Rogers

I know Jacoby’s recruitment is wild but got a little tidbit. I talked to his friend that works in hibits, and he knew I was a Georgia fan. He said he talked to jacoby’s mom a few days ago, and she said it was bama or Georgia. So apparently his family doesn’t even know.

  11. Bulldawg36

I’m not even worried about Jacoby any more. Would love to have him in Athens….but if not, hopefully we will get somebody just as good.

  12. BroDawg

CB’s for Jacoby to LSU today… let’s see if others jump on that bandwagon as well?? Gotta love recruiting!

  13. BroDawg

Jacoby is getting CB’s for LSU today. I could see a lot of those Bama predictions coming as a domino effect. One respected guy puts in a CB and everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. Who knows??

  14. DawgByte

Greg Poole Is it just me, but did our D back intros days fundamentally sounder? We seemed to get great pad level up front, our backers got off blocks quickly and we tackled low.

  15. Bulldawg36

Just left Hull GA! Now I’m eating Indian food in downtown Athens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Colonial Dawg

Reddawg13 Greg Poole  If I am thinking of the wrong person, just erase my response from your memory.

  17. Colonial Dawg

Reddawg13 Greg Poole If it is who I think you are asking about, he went by all three names, and was fast as lightning.  Wesley?  (IDK)  He got hurt in that Tennessee game a few years ago when we had all the knee injuries  and he never really made it back.  Had to give up football.

  18. Colonial Dawg

DawgByte Now the question……which birthday is it?  And HappyBirthday by the way!

  19. bahits

DawgByte DawgDaddy Greg Poole Is this the one that Chicago was trying to get when our haughty ruler flew over to Europe in the early days of his realm, only to be laughed at?

  20. DawgByte

bahits Greg Poole Bama is not having any issues with recruiting this year, just look at their ranking. Saban is the draw at that program and until he leaves they’ll reload year after year. The key for UGA is to do our best to keep pace and out recruit the other SEC teams, which we seem to be doing.

  21. DawgByte

DawgDaddy Greg Poole Yes they are. The bidding packages for each city are incredibly detailed (I worked for a company that created the package for Atlanta) and they are vetted by the committee. The problem is the Olympic committee is rife with corruptionn and governed by politics.

  22. DawgByte

Greg Poole I recall reading multiple Brazilian’s criticizing the U.S. when the lights went out during the Super Bowl. My response was simply: “Hey smart guys, lets see how well you put on the Olympics!”

  23. bahits

Greg Poole Only one team can win the Championship each year.  Bama has been in position to do that for a long time and has done it more than anyone else.

I am not going to write their obit until they are not in the final 5 at the end of the season for several years running.

Losing Kirby is going to make it a lot tougher.  We can already see that in recruiting, where Bama would be firmly in the #1 spot ahead of OSU, if Kirby didn’t have our class in the mix.  You know several of our recruits would be committed to Bama, if Kirby was still there.

  24. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I don’t understand why this should be.  Aren’t the bidding countries/cities checked out in advance to determine if they can deliver what is promised?

  25. DawgDaddy

bahits He did the right thing, so many today would have simply done as the creeps buddy’s did and pull out the phone and videoed the whole incident.

  26. Greg Poole

“College football is a place for the old-money powers. It will always be easier to recruit at the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world than in other places, but even then, being relentlessly excellent — not just a program which occasionally chases glory in the way Kirk Ferentz and Iowa seem to do — is exhausting.
That fatigue appeared to be setting in for Nick Saban last September, fresh off the loss to Ole Miss. A third straight season without a national title appeared to be emerging. If career obituaries weren’t being written about The Hound — Alabama’s modern-day answer to The Bear — a lot of columnists were certainly voicing the idea that Saban’s most fruitful period in Tuscaloosa had reached its apex. Greatness might still emerge from time to time, but it could not be expected — not at the same level, at any rate.”

  27. dirtydawgs

No way those guys made those predictions to BAma without some inside scoop. The ship may have sailed on Jacoby

  28. DawgByte

DawgDaddy Greg Poole It certainly was a gamble. I’ll be honest… at the time I saw the reasoning behind starting Bauta. What I couldn’t abide was the decision to keep him in the game when it was crystal clear the offense was sputtering.

  29. DawgByte

What’s up lads… the Birthday Boy is in the house!
Any news on recruits visiting this weekend?

  30. Greg Poole

dawgmum  No, but the fact that he stayed and went out with Eason in Athens last night can’t hurt.

  31. Reddawg13

Greg Poole He is going to get a lot of yards this year and years to come! I was really glad to get him!

  32. Reddawg13

Greg Poole What happened to that track star that we got maybe two years ago, can’t remember his name. Did he leave?

  33. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I am hoping that he has decided to follow his heart to UGA and decided visiting Bama was a waste of time.

  34. Greg Poole

DawgDaddy Yep. That’s why I post them – the change is dramatic and with winning more of them will be Dawgs. It is a process.

  35. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole Even though he is a strong UF lean, it is good to see us in most of these kids top 5 or less.

  36. DawgDaddy

Greg Poole I say when he chose to start Bauta  his fate was sealed.   I am still SMH over that one.

    Breakout candidate 2016

    Georgia — Elijah Holyfield, RB

With the electric duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel slated to dominate Georgia’s carries this season, Elijah Holyfield was expected to fade to the background in 2016. When Michel sustained an off-the-field injury during the Fourth of July, though, all of that changed.
Holyfield, whose father Evander Holyfield,is regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all-time, could potentially start week one for the Bulldogs if Chubb is not at 100 percent.
