[break] The Georgia men’s golf is in first place after one round of the Puerto Rico Classic.

On Sunday at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa, the Bulldogs fired an 8-under-par 280 and built a 5-stroke advantage over Alabama. The Puerto Rico Classic is the opener for the spring portion of Georgia’s schedule.

Senior Nicholas Reach and junior Sepp Straka paced the Bulldogs with 3-under 69s. They are tied for second, two strokes in back of Virginia Tech’s Scott Vincent.

The Bulldogs also got 1-under 71s from junior Lee McCoy and sophomore Greyson Sigg. Senior Mookie DeMoss had Georgia’s non-counting score of 1-over 73.

“We were very encouraged by what we saw today,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We were pretty steady and committed to what we were trying to do. Hopefully we can keep it going the same way the next couple of days.”

The Puerto Rico Classic will continue Monday and will conclude on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at BirdieFire.com
