GymDogs Get First Road Win at Mizzou

Courtney Kupets Carter

The sixth-ranked Georgia GymDogs posted a 196.300 to claim their first road victory against the No. 13 Missouri Tigers (195.900) at the Hearnes Center on Friday Night.

Junior Rachel Dickson claimed the all-around, vault, and bars titles, earning a season-high score of 39.600 for the night.

“This team has so much potential,” head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “Our goal was to get a higher score, but overall it was a great meet. Rachel Dickson has been working on improving her landing on vault and she finally got it. It was fantastic. Emily Schild has been working so hard on her dismount on bars, and even though she fell, she got the dismount. Those little things are what are going to get this team to where we need to be. We need to put everything together. It’s a process and we’re going to keep working towards that.”

Georgia started slow on bars, having to count a fall. Sydney Snead led off with a 9.875, followed by Megan Roberts and Alexa Al-Hameed with scores of 9.850 and 9.825, respectively.  Rachel Dickson earned Georgia’s first 9.900 of the night in the first rotation.

Dickson led the GymDogs with a near perfect vault, scoring a career-high 9.975. Rachael Lukacs and Snead completed the rotation with a pair of 9.900’s to finish strong with a 49.300 vault total for Georgia.

The GymDogs and Tigers were knotted at 98.025 after two rotations.

Georgia gained the lead in the third rotation, posting a 49.100 on floor. Again it was Dickson who earned the GymDogs’ highest score of the event, with a 9.900.  Rachel Baumann and Snead contributed scores of 9.850, followed by Mikayla Magee and Vega with 9.800 and 9.700, respectively.

Competition concluded on beam for the GymDogs, posting a 49.175.  Baumann led the squad, posting a season-high 9.900 for her routine.  Marissa Oakley, Snead, and Dickson each contributed scores of 9.825.

Georgia continues SEC action against the Kentucky Wildcats in Stegeman Coliseum on Friday, February 15 at 7 p.m.
