The Georgia soccer team split a pair of spring games against South Carolina and Furman at the MESA Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell to the Gamecocks, 3-1, in the first game, but rebounded with a 2-1 win over the Paladins in the second game.

“Any spring event where you play two good teams like South Carolina and Furman is an opportunity to grow as a team and we were able to do that today,” head coach Billy Lesesne said. “I am very pleased with every player pitching in and doing their job. It was a successful outing where we gain experience, that’s what spring is all about. We have some players testing new positions and three early enrollees playing against college opposition. We all learned something from today, we’ll break down the film, and continue to improve. It’s been a good spring so far and I’m very pleased with the efforts today.”

Georgia played a shortened game of 30-minute halves against South Carolina. The teams played to a 1-1 tie through the first half, before South Carolina scored two goals in the second to win the game, 3-1. Rising senior Kelsey Killean scored the Bulldogs’ lone goal of the match.

In a 45-minute game against Furman, early enrollee Reagan Glisson scored her second goal of spring action to give Georgia a 1-0 lead. The Paladins evened the score before Killean gave the Bulldogs the advantage. Glisson took a corner kick into the box where Daria Stan played the ball to Killean for the score.

Georgia returns to action on Saturday, March 25 for a game against Mercer. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. in Macon.
