The No. 14 Bulldogs softball team opened with two dominating wins Friday at the Georgia classic in Jack Turner Stadium defeating Redford 12-2 and Jacksonville State 7-0. This now brings the team to an overall record of 15-1 as it inches closer to SEC play.

Off to a fast start against Redford, Brittany Gray (6-0) struck out the side and Alyssa Dicarlo singled to left field to give Georgia the 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.

By the third inning, the Bulldogs put the game away scoring eleven runs on eleven hits. Redford was forced to make a pitching change mid-inning bringing in Kaylie Harding while bases were loaded. A few more hits and a double off the wall by Alyssen Febrey closed out the inning giving Georgia the 12-0 lead.

Lauren Mathis relieved Gray in the 4th pitching one scoreless inning. To close out the game for Georgia Keara Napoli surrendered two runs to Redford, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the game was called by decision in the 5th inning.

In the second game against Jacksonville State, it was dictated by outstanding pitching as the Bulldogs threw a combined no-hitter.

Wasting no time, 3 runs were scored by Georgia in the 1st inning off a Jessica Morgan RBI double to left field and a single from Ciara Bryan bringing in two runners. The Bulldogs tallied three more runs in the 3rd inning from a Jordan Dogget’s two-run single and one the final run on a bases-loaded walk.

Amanda Ablan and Kylie Bass finished with a combined no-hitter solidifying the victory.

“It’s fun just to have the team out here playing,” head coach Lu-Harris Champer said. “Excited to have five different kids with three RBI’s a piece it’s nice to spread it out and get production up and down the line up. “I thought the pitching was outstanding and Cortni Emanuel was just amazing.”

The Bulldog Classic will resume Saturday as Georgia plays its first game at 1:00 p.m. against UNCG and at 3:30 p.m. Jacksonville State.
