Capitalizing on seven hits and three Eagle errors, the No. 12 Georgia softball team (26-5, 1-2) shut out Georgia Southern (15-14) in a run-rule 9-0 fashion on Wednesday.

Cortni Emanuel and Alyssa DiCarlo accounted for two hits each of Georgia’s total, as DiCarlo also scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Tina Iosefa, Maeve McGuire, and Lacey Sumerlin also collected two RBI apiece.

Brittany Gray (8-3) pitched well for the Bulldogs, striking out six while giving up three hits and a walk. She had a streak of sitting down seven-consecutive batters while an error allowed the only other baserunner for the Eagles.

After leaving runners in scoring position in the first two innings, Georgia broke it up in the third to lead 4-0. With two outs, Alex Hugo was issued the first of two walks on the night, as Iosefa’s ninth home run of the year went soaring over left field for the 2-0 advantage. The inning continued, as with bases loaded Sumerlin notched a two-RBI single to close out the scoring.

Five more runs came in the fourth with a bases-loaded walk to Iosefa bringing in the first run. DiCarlo and McGuire went back-to-back with their two-RBI hits to seal the win at 9-0.

Georgia is back with SEC action this weekend, hosting its league home opener against No. 4 Texas A&M. The series begins on Friday, March 25 with a six p.m. first pitch that will be broadcast on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
