Allison Schmitt stopped the clock in 1:56.23 to obliterate the mark of 1:58.43 set in 1979 by Cynthia “Sippy” Woodhead. Canada’s Emily Overholt placed second in 1:57.55 and Brazil’s Manuella Lyrio came in third in 1:58.03.

Rising sophomore Gunnar Bentz swam the third leg of the men’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay that initially placed second in 7:12.20 but later was disqualified because one of his teammates wore tape holding two of his fingers together
