PALM DESERT, California – Georgia junior men’s tennis player Emil Reinberg won his first match of the day before falling to the No. 1 overall seed in the quarterfinals to conclude an impressive run in the 2017 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Fall Championships.
Reinberg roared out to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Florida State’s Guy Iradukunda in the Round of 16, setting up a battle with top-seeded Nuno Borges from Mississippi State. Borges, who was runner-up in last season’s NCAA Singles Championship, defeated Reinberg, 6-1, 6-4.
Georgia’s top doubles team of Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski, seeded fifth in this event, also saw their run come to an end in the quarterfinals of the main draw. The Bulldog duo dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Wisconsin’s Chema Carraza and Josef Dodridge.
“Overall, there were some positives to take away from this week,” head coach Manuel Diaz. “I am pleased with how our guys competed this fall, and I think we all know we have to work extremely hard to get ready for the spring season.”
