Five singles wins and three doubles victories highlighted the day for the Georgia men’s tennis team Saturday at the 2018 MLK/Georgia Tech Invitational.
Playing at the Ken Byers Complex on the Georgia Tech campus, the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs competed against mostly players from Columbia, which came in ranked 23rd nationally as a team. Georgia won four singles matches and took wins at three doubles courts against the Lions.
Georgia’s Paul Oosterbaan, who sat out most of last season due to injury, looked impressive in his return with a 6-1, 6-1 win over 122nd-ranked Timothy Wang from Columbia and a 6-2 victory in doubles with teammate Nathan Ponwith.
“Overall, there were some positive things that happened for our team,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “It was obviously great to see Paul come out with a win after not playing for the majority of last season. In doubles, we played ok and got three wins, but we have plenty of improvements to make. I look forward to getting back out here tomorrow.”
Joining Oosterbaan were teammates Wayne Montgomery, Robert Loeb, Alex Phillips and Jan Zielinski, who all picked up singles wins. In doubles, Montgomery and Duncan paired for a 6-4 win, while Emil Reinberg and Alex Diaz teamed up for a 7-6 (4) victory.
Georgia will now compete against players from Illinois on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. ET. Fans can follow along online on their devices with Live Stats, CLICK HERE.
