WOMEN’S TENNIS: Georgia defends No. 3 ranking, Slam Notre Dame in ITA Kick-Off Weekend Championship

The Georgia women’s tennis team defended their No. 3 ranking by defeating Notre Dame 5-2 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts on Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs will advance to the ITA Indoor National Championship Tournament which will be held from February 7-10 in Chicago, Illinois and will be returning to the tournament as defending National Champions.

In doubles, on court three, junior Morgan Coppoc and freshman Lea Ma made quick work of Ally Bojczuk and Bess Waldram, blanking them 6-0. Katarina Jokic and Anna Hertel kept pace sweeping Zoe Spence and Cameron Corse 6-0 as well. Seniors Marta Gonzalez and Elena Christofi went unfinished on court two.

In singles, Hertel fell to Page Freeman 6-3, 6-1 on court four, with No. 17 Jokic picking up the win on court one against Zoe Spence 6-2, 6-3. Gonzalez was defeated by Bojczuk after two hard-fought sets 6-4, 6-3. No. 19 Ma won a tiebreaker set 7-4 before capping off the set win with a 7-5 win over Corse on court two. Sophomore Meg Kowalski clinched the match for the Dawgs on court six. The former SEC Freshman of the Year defeated Zoe Taylor 6-2, 6-1. Christofi finished out her night with a victory as well, defeating Julia Lilien 6-2, 6-0.

 

 

 

 

So what is next for the third-ranked Lady Bulldogs?

Georgia will travel to Atlanta to take on in-state rival Georgia Tech on Thursday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. ET before returning home to host Clemson on Saturday, February 1, also at 4:00 p.m. ET.
