[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia Bulldogs will be hosting the women’s ITA Southeast Regionals, a singles and doubles tournament that will feature 80 players and 37 doubles pairs from 15 schools from across Georgia and Florida.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Six Bulldogs will participate in the tournament held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “It’s a great regional tournament,” said Head Coach Jeff Wallace. “It would be nice for us to have a huge showing here at home. We’ve been playing great tennis through this fall, and I’m just looking for us to continue to grow as players.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The regional tournament will run from Thursday to Monday. The qualifying rounds will start on Thursday at 9 a.m., and the main draw will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. The singles final, consolation final, and doubles final will be held Monday starting at 10 a.m.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “It would be nice to have some people come out here,” added Wallace. “I don’t think there’s too much going on in Athens, the weather’s supposed to be great, so hopefully we’ll get some fans out to watch some really good tennis.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] The qualifying draw will be announced on Wednesday, and the main draw will announced upon completion of the qualifying rounds.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Field
[su_spacer size=”40″] The field will feature a large pool of talent, with 20 players and seven doubles pairs in ITA rankings. The Bulldogs have already faced players from Miami, as the two teams both made the trip to Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico for the fall’s opening tournament. It was Perez who scored the big win for the Bulldogs on that day, taking down No. 6 Stephanie Wagner. Sinead Lohan, ranked 13th nationally, defeated No. 58 Silvia Garcia in Puerto Rico and No. 29 Perez in the ITA All-American Championships singles semifinal.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The tournament will also be Georgia’s first look at conference foe Florida, which has five singles players in the ITA top 125 to go with three doubles pairs in the rankings.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Top ACC talent will also be present in Athens this weekend as players and doubles pairs from Georgia Tech and Florida State will compete. The Yellow Jackets boast the No. 7 doubles pair in Kendal Woodard and Paige Hourigan. The Seminoles have three players in the ITA rankings, with Daneika Borthwick coming in at No. 66 to top the team. They also have a ranked doubles pair.
