National Invitational Volleyball Championship Begins Tuesday at 4 PM at UGA’s Ramsey Center

The National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) play will begin Tuesday at UGA’s Ramsey Center as Georgia plays host to Alabama A&M, UCF, and UNC Greensboro in the opening rounds.
 

Tournament play will commence Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. between UCF (19-13) and UNC Greensboro (19-11) followed by the Georgia Bulldogs (20-11) and Alabama A&M (14-19) at 7 p.m. The winners will face off in round two Wednesday at 7 p.m.

 

Admission to both rounds in Athens will be free for the public.

 

Live stats will be available for all matches. Only Georgia matches will be streamed to the SEC Network+.

 

The 2017 NIVC will feature a 32-team format. The first and second rounds will be played out from Nov. 28-30 at eight total sites. Round three will be Dec. 2-4 with the semifinals Dec. 4-6. The Championship will be Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
 

GEORGIA’S NIVC HISTORY

 
Georgia appeared in the NIVC in 1989 and 1990. The Bulldogs went 2-1 in 1989 with wins over Murray State and Arkansas State. UGA advanced to the semifinals in 1990 before being eliminated by Cal State-Northridge. 2017 is the first season that UGA will appear in the postseason since 2013 when the Bulldogs played in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This is will be Georgia’s 11th postseason appearance.

SERIES HISTORIES

 
Alabama A&M
 
Georgia leads the all-time series over Alabama A&M 4-0. The last meeting came in 2014 with Georgia taking the match in three sets.

 

UCF
 
The Bulldogs narrowly lead the series with UCF, 4-3. It’s been a while since the teams have met with the last meeting coming in 2004 on the road. Georgia was victorious in straight sets.

 

UNC Greensboro
 
Georgia and UNC Greensboro have met only one time in the history of their programs. The Bulldogs won the lone meeting in 2013 in four sets.
