A look back at what decided the game between Georgia and Auburn.

Branson Robinson rushed for 8.2 yards a carry which resulted in 98 yards on only 12 carries. The freshman running back from Mississippi came in with loads of hype related to his physique, star rating, and running style, and in his first legitimate chance to show off his ability, he certainly made the most of it. Georgia has been looking for a spark in the running game after two lackadaisical weeks against Kent State and Missouri, and Robinson seems to be the spark the Dawgs have been looking for.

Georgia had 22 first downs conversions during the game. The Dawgs, especially in the second half, did a phenomenal job moving the ball in numerous ways. Stetson Bennett made numerous impressive 3rd down conversions while the running game seriously contributed towards the Bulldogs ability to move the ball. Georgia had over double the amount of first downs that Auburn had, proving that UGA is still moving the ball efficiently.

Georgia rushed the ball for almost 300 yards against Auburn. The Dawgs’ scored six touchdowns on the ground Saturday afternoon proving that their ground game is not worth underestimating. Despite the fact that Georgia lost Zamir White and James Cook, they have a number of backs capable of filling in the rushing void left by the current NFL players. Unfortunately, it seems that Kendal Milton may be sidelined with a hamstring injury. Still, with Daijun Edwards and Branson Robinson playing as well as they are, with the threat of Stetson Bennett’s legs, Georgia should be positioned comfortably to pose a serious threat on the ground in upcoming games.

Georgia accumulated over 500 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs have combined for over 400 yards of offense every game played this year, going 500 or more through four of the six games they’ve played. Even when it seems they’ve struggled offensively, this shows how dangerous they are when moving the football. Todd Monken is heavily regarded as one of the best offensive minds in college football and he is proving why he deserves his hefty two-million-dollar salary.

Not the statistic everyone is dying for, but certainly, one that could contribute to Georgia reaching its maximum potential for this 2022 campaign. Brett Thorson, the freshman punter from Australia, put 5/5 punts inside Auburn’s 20-yard line. This contributed a significant amount towards the defensive success Georgia was able to have, unlike last weekend in Missouri where the Dawg’s defense had to start many possessions near the 50-yard line. Playing the field position game is an underrated battle that Thorson, in his first real chance, showed he is more than capable of helping the Dawgs utilize. Expect Thorson’s monster leg and ability to switch the field play a more significant role than some may think in future games for UGA
