Georgia’s offense racked up a total of 559 yards against UT Martin this past Saturday. While on paper this number is terrific, it did take the Bulldogs’ offense a little time to start clicking. Of course, expectations have to be managed in the first game of the season, particularly with a new quarterback and offensive coordinator. On top of that, Georgia is still dealing with a plethora of injuries at the running back position. It is likely that Georgia used only a limited portion of their offensive playbook, but through committee effort, especially in the second half, the Dawgs were able to move the football and offer a glimpse of what’s to come.

The Bulldogs did not turn the football over at all against UT Martin. Carson Beck made smart decisions with the football in his first game as a starter, and the committee of running backs held onto the football throughout the game. Despite Brock Bowers putting the ball on the ground once, Arian Smith was able to recover it with no real threat from a Skyhawk defender in sight. The turnover battle will be a critical aspect of Georgia’s season because they possess all the talent needed to win football games, but self-inflicted wounds could derail their chance at a historic threepeat.

Three different position players scored rushing touchdowns this past Saturday. Carson Beck scampered into the end zone after executing a Stetson Bennett-like juke for a four-yard touchdown. Brock Bowers also found the end zone with an end-around play, a play that Bowers scored multiple touchdowns on last season. Rod Robinson II made his debut memorable by finding the endzone, highlighting a strong opening performance. The Bulldogs ran the ball at a high level inside of the redzone which is something Georgia struggled to do early in the 2022 season, but that was not an issue against the Skyhawks.

Eleven players caught passes from the collection of Bulldog quarterbacks on Saturday. Georgia has immense talent at the receiver position with a culmination of transfers, developed talent, and youthful freshman. Brock Bowers, the best tight end in the country, is a mismatch no matter how defenses elect to line up against him while Oscar Delp put his skillset on full display against UT Martin. Ladd McConkey and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint did not play for the Bulldogs, two of Georgia’s most experienced and established wideouts. With Carson Beck acclimating into Mike Bobo’s offense, Georgia will continue to rely on the collection of talented pass catchers to make their quarterback’s life less stressful.

Georgia was able to sack the quarterback just once against the Skyhawks. The Bulldogs’ pass rush has been questioned throughout the offseason, and while they weren’t able to get to the quarterback frequently, there shouldn’t necessarily be any need to hit the panic button. UT Martin’s passing offense consisted of quick, limited-read plays where the Bulldogs’ outside linebackers and defensive line simply didn’t have enough time to reach the quarterback. Given the opportunity in upcoming games, Georgia’s defensive front should silence the doubters.
