3 – Sacks from the Georgia defense

Schumann’s defense got after Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff, sacking him three times along with four QB hits. The Dawgs that brought down the former Bulldog were Gabe Harris Jr, Raylen Wilson, and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. With Vandagriff on the run for what seemed like the entire game, Stoops’ offensive attack was not able to get into much of a rhythm, which ultimately allowed Georgia’s offense to stay in the game.

35 – minutes of possession for Kentucky

Early on, it was evident that Kentucky’s game plan was to run the ball and control the clock. The Wildcats offense had control of the ball for 35 minutes and two seconds as a result of 45 rushes for 170 yards. Among these minutes of possession were 23 first downs compared to Georgia’s much inferior 13. Defensive linemen Christen Miller, Nazir Stackhouse and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins combined to play over 170 snaps. This high combined snap count occurred due to a variety of defensive line absences including Warren Brinson, Mykel Williams, and Jordan Hall. The eventual return of these players will only push the Georgia defense to an even higher level.

4 – Field goal attempts from Kentucky

While Kentucky’s offense was able to get the ball down the field successfully at times, the Georgia defense held the Wildcats to four field goals rather than touchdowns. Had they crossed the goal line a time or two instead of settling for three, the outcome of the game would have likely been more unfortunate for the Bulldogs. A lot of credit goes to Schumann’s defensive unit for keeping the “Bend Don’t Break” defense going, as they have still not allowed a touchdown this season.

6 – Brett Thorson punts

In Lexington, six punts in Georgia’s matchup against Kentucky made up the most in a single game in Brett Thorson’s Georgia career. Prior to this game, he averaged just 2.5 punts-per-game on the season. He took the field four times in the season opener against Clemson and one time against Tennessee Tech. Thorson often jokes about the offense hating him, not letting him see the field. Although Dawg fans love him, from here on out, the Georgia faithful hope to see Thorson out on the field far less often.

9 – Georgia team penalties

After the game, Coach Smart talked about how he felt penalty numbers have been up across the league. Georgia totaled nine penalties for 85 yards. Most notably, Jalon Walker was called for roughing the passer on third down mid-way into the second quarter. Many disagreed with the call. And throughout the game, penalties were enforced against the Bulldogs on crucial downs. The Dawgs may have gotten the road-game jitters out of the way with this one, and hopefully the matchup against the Wildcats does not represent the identity of this team on the road.
