Stats That Matter – Georgia vs. Tennessee Tech 2024

5 – Passing touchdowns for Carson Beck

Georgia’s star quarterback continues to prove why he might be the best player in college football this year, throwing five touchdowns in just over one half. While this stat was achieved against an inferior team, a lot can be said for this amazing performance from a player who has the national spotlight on his team and his Heisman campaign. With a lot of road SEC games in the next few weeks, he has the opportunity to lead his team to many huge wins and separate himself against the rest of the country in the Heisman race.

1 – Another Sanford turnover for Dan Jackson

Again at the face of a Georgia defensive turnover was Dan Jackson. The face of last week’s Bulldawg Illustrated cover showed up strong in the Sanford stadium home opener. Tennessee Tech’s Jordan Yates rolled right and dropped the ball. Jackson came up with it. This marked the fifth time “Dirty Dan” has contributed to a Dawg defensive turnover. He tends to dominate in Athens, last season, Jackson forced a fumble against UAB.

78 – Rushing yards for Trevor Etienne

“ETN” impressed in his first game in a Georgia uniform, rushing for 78 yards on just five carries along with a 45-yard breakaway rush. He averaged 62.75 rushing yards per game last season in the blue and orange. Now, behind a much more talented offensive line, Etienne will thrive. With the outstanding performance from Nate Frazier last week, Bulldog fans could quickly see the birth of a new elite running back duo to put Bobo’s offense on a whole nother level.

‌6 – Receptions or carries for true freshmen

One benefit of putting FCS teams on the schedule is that it gives a coaching staff a chance to give many young players the opportunity to get playing time. All three of Georgia’s newest members of RBU saw the field. Nate Frazier was back out there, followed by the speedster Dwight Phillips Jr. and former Florida commit Chauncey Bowens. Whether rushing or receiving, each of these six freshmen had yards in their first home matchup. Last week, Kirby Smart spoke on the importance of not playing a lot of freshmen in the SEC. Yet, against a lesser opponent in Tennessee Tech, the game was a perfect opportunity to give young talent at least some experience on the collegiate level.

53.5 – Largest spread in Georgia Football history

Although Georgia did not cover, the line of 53.5 against Tennessee Tech was the largest spread in Georgia Football history. In Kirby Smart’s opening season, the Dawgs were 53-point favorites against Nicholls State. They snuck by with a 26-24 victory. With that being said, a 45 point win is never one to be taken for granted. This line shows the public’s opinion on what Kirby Smart’s team is made of. The Bulldogs are favored in every single game this season, meaning Vegas believes each game on the schedule is theirs to lose.
