Stats That Matter: Georgia vs. UMass 2024

3 – Nate Frazier touchdowns

The Bulldogs’ freshman running back had the best game of his young collegiate career, scoring three touchdowns along with 136 yards rushing. His quick feet have continued to impress, throwing defenders for a loop as they attempt to tackle the young ball carrier. With starting back Trevor Etienne battling a rib injury, seeing this type of play from Frazier is a great sign for a team looking to win the state versus the Yellow Jackets. All three of the freshmen backs saw the field versus UMass, and it was great to see the bright future of the Georgia backfield.

1 – Defensive touchdown

In their second to last game of the season, the Bulldogs came up with their first defensive touchdown. Although most of the performance from the defense, especially in the first half, was shaky, there were a couple of key plays that had a major impact against Massachusetts. Chris Cole came up with the football for the second week in a row. This time, however, his fumble recovery resulted in a touchdown. Gabe Harris Jr. stripped the ball from QB AJ Hairston, forcing the fumble in the first place. The Junkyard Dawgs will need to continue creating explosive plays as the season moves into December.

4 – First half TDs for Carson Beck

Beck has shined as of late, putting on another show in front of Bulldog Nation. Even though this matchup with the Minutemen set him up for success, throwing four touchdowns in 30 minutes of play is impressive no matter who you’re playing. At the half, Beck had more passing TDs than incompletions. His deep ball was on point, and at certain moments even lowered his shoulder in what felt like a continued effort to prove his worth to the Georgia faithful. The Bulldog Nation will be hoping to see this side of the Bulldogs’ quarterback for the rest of the season.

‌110 – Receiving yards for Arian Smith

The senior wide receiver went over the 100-yard mark for the first time since the Mississippi State game back in October. These yards came on just three receptions. The speedster’s longest catch of the day went for 49 yards. With the offense seemingly on the uprise, this performance from Smith is just what this team needs. He is having a career year, and the Dawgs will need him to continue to do so to accomplish their season goals.

0 – Punts

Georgia punter Brett Thorson did not see the field in the victory over UMass. The Aussie punter may be once again joking that his team hates him. This was the first time all season that the Australian was not called on to punt. This stat is yet another piece of evidence that the Bulldogs’ offense is figuring itself out. As the regular season is coming to a close, it’s a great time for things to heat up on either side of the ball.
