Stats That Matter: 2024 SEC Championship

22 – Combined points by Trevor Etienne and Peyton Woodring

This duo scored every single point in the Dawgs’ victory over the Longhorns in both matchups this season. Watching these games back, this feels like one of the more crazy statlines of the season. Opportunities arose for other players throughout both games, yet they could not capitalize. The two Louisiana natives, Woodring and Etienne, ended up being the only two to score for Georgia. Etienne was adamant about how much this game meant for him having not yet been a part of a championship in college.

6 – Sacks

The Georgia defense dialed up six sacks of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, including two from defensive lineman Mykel Williams. The Longhorns were without their starting left tackle, Kelvin Banks, Jr., who is a projected first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. It seemed like every play, whether it was a sack or not, resulted in Ewers on the ground. Along with taking down the quarterback in the backfield, Texas ran the ball 28 times for only 31 yards. The Junkyard Dawgs defense looks to be a squad that nobody wants to face right now. Let’s hope they continue their dominance as the team heads to New Orleans.

3 – SEC Championships under Kirby Smart

Before the season began, the Bulldogs’ schedule made many feel like this team would not win enough games to make it to Atlanta. At the podium, Coach Smart spoke briefly on the difficulty of the team’s schedule and how important the first round bye will be. Now, the Georgia staff celebrates their third SEC Championship title in the Kirby Smart era. While this team has bigger goals in mind, this is an amazing accomplishment for this program. The Dawgs will now have much needed rest ahead of the Sugar Bowl.

9 – Drew Bobo Passing Yards

Offensive lineman Drew Bobo is a perfect career passer in his time spent at the University of Georgia. Son of former Georgia quarterback and current Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, Drew sure got it from somewhere. It was fourth and five from the Dawgs’ own 30-yard line when Arian Smith came flying across the field in motion. The ball was snapped directly to center Drew Bobo, who gave Smith a touch-pass, allowing him to turn up field and gain the necessary yardage for a first down. This was exactly the fourth-quarter momentum shift the Bulldogs needed.

2 – Interceptions by Daylen Everette

Daylen Everette seems to have the Longhorn offense’s number. Everette has now garnered four forced turnovers against Texas: two in each game. In the SEC Championship, both turnovers came in the form of interceptions for No. 6. His performance led to him being named the 2024 SEC Championship MVP. He and his fellow defensive backs will need to keep up the good work as the Dawgs play towards a National Championship.
