Stephanie Carras, a four-time All-State performer and medalist at the 2016 Michigan Division II Lower Peninsula State Championships, will continue competing as a member of the UGA women’s golf team this fall, head coach Josh Brewer announced on Wednesday.

 
“We try to add pieces to our program that can helps us win conference championships and national titles,” Brewer said. “We feel like Stephanie can do that. She has a knack for winning. She won a state title and has won some smaller national level tournaments. We’re looking forward to her joining us and continuing that here at Georgia.”
 
 
Carras’ stellar playing resume includes qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, four top-four individual finishes at the Michigan State Championships and four victories in junior events.
 
 
Carras shot 69-70 to earn medalist honors at the 2016 Division II Lower Peninsula Championships last fall. That paced Midland Dow High School to a 48-stroke win in the team field and supplied the Chargers with their first-ever state title in girls golf. Carras was named Saginaw News Girls Golfer of the Year.
 
 
Carras also placed third as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore and second as a junior at the state championships. She was named to the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association’s all-classification “Super Team” as a junior and a senior after being named All-State for Division II as both a freshman and a sophomore.
 
 
Carras’ junior resume is headlined by tying for fifth at a regional qualifier in Arizona to earn a spot in the field for last year’s U.S. Women’s Am at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. She also notched four victories in a combined 10 events on the Future Collegians World Tour and the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour during 2015 and 2016.
 
 
“In addition to Stephanie’s success on the golf course, her family pedigree and their success in college athletics was really attractive,” Brewer said.
 
 
Carras’ father, John, played tennis at Southern Cal from 1986-89. In 1988, he earned All-America recognition in both singles and doubles by advancing to the Round of 16 in both draws at the NCAA Championships, which were hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens.
 
 
Carras will be joining one of the nation’s most storied women’s golf traditions at the University of Georgia. The Bulldogs have notched 26 top-20 and 20 top-10 finishes at the last 38 national championships, including winning the 2001 NCAA title. Individually, Bulldog golfers have captured three national titles – Terri Moody in 1981, Cindy Schreyer in 1984 and Vicki Goetze in 1992 – and earned 53 All-America certificates. Georgia leads the Southeastern Conference with 19 combined league championships, 11 team crowns and eight individual medalists.
 
 
The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 8 by both Golfweek and Golfstat. Georgia has four golfers ranked among the nation’s top-50 by Golfweek – Jillian Hollis at No. 11, Harang Lee at No. 15, Rinko Mitsunaga at No. 33 and Bailey Tardy at No. 41.
