When Georgia Has the Ball
Can the Bulldog offense finally put it all together on Saturday? I expect Ted Roof is going to sell out by run blitzing the Georgia offensive line at every opportunity and forcing Greyson Lambert to make plays with his arm. Sony Michel has an opportunity with a solid game to get to the 1,000 yard plateau on the regular season. The tech defense has struggled as the season has worn on giving up about 27 points and 365 yards per game. The Georgia offense will get opportunities to make big plays in this game, but the lingering question is whether the offense can make them to keep the chains moving. If Georgia can generate the average that the jackets give up, I believe the Dawgs will pull off the win on the Flats.
When tech Has the Ball
I hate the service academy triple option and, especially, the legal but dirty cut blocking scheme used by tech. If the NCAA were really concerned about player safety, blocking at or below the knee would be determined to be illegal and subject to the same penalty as targeting. The jackets’ offense is assignment football … nothing more, nothing less. Jeremy Pruitt didn’t have his best coaching day last year in the upset in Athens. Hopefully, he has been studying the enemy’s scheme and has something in store for tomorrow. In particular, he needs to have something specifically designed to take away the dive. I expect Justin Thomas to suit up at QB and also think that Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins are going to hit him over and over again throughout. Of course, if the Dawgs get caught looking in the backfield, don’t be surprised to see the jackets take some shots against the Georgia secondary. Finally, if the Dawgs control the dive, I think we’ll be very happy tomorrow afternoon.
What Will Happen
Georgia has better players across the board, period. tech has the intangibles of playing for their season. I don’t even pretend to know whether Mark Richt is coaching for his job later today, but he typically has been pretty good with his back to the wall. Fish Fry wants to make Bug Nation forget about the rest of the season with tech’s first win in Atlanta over the Dawgs since Al Ford screwed the Dawgs in 1999. I just think Georgia has too much to play for tomorrow compared to tech. In a similar vein since the Florida game, the Dawgs win an ugly one as the offense struggles again.
Final Score: Georgia 24, tech 17
That’s what I think. Tell me your thoughts in the comments below.
