Georgia swimmers Jay Litherland, Camden Murphy and Courtney Harnish have earned weekly awards from the Southeastern Conference, according to an announcement Tuesday by the league office.

 

Litherland was picked as the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week, Murphy was chosen as the SEC Male Freshman of the Week, and Harnish claimed SEC Female Freshman of the Week honors. This is Harnish’s third recognition of the year, and the second for both Litherland and Murphy.

During last weekend’s UGA Fall Invitational, Litherland recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in five events. The senior from Alpharetta, Ga., placed second in the 400 individual medley and the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 200 individual medley. Litherland led off the 800 freestyle relay in a season-best 200 freestyle time. His 400 individual medley (3:39.96) and 500 freestyle (4:16.03) times stand second and 10th, respectively, in the nation this year. Litherland anchored the 400 medley relay that posted the seventh-fastest time (3:07.94) in school history.

Murphy, a native of Novi, Mich., posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in three events. He placed third in the 200 butterfly, fourth in the 100 butterfly and 13th in the 100 freestyle. Murphy’s 100 and 200 butterfly times (46.07 and 1:41.74) rank fourth and sixth all-time in the Georgia record book, respectively, and the 200 time is eighth nationally this year. Murphy joined Litherland on the 400 medley relay that posted the seventh-fastest time in Georgia annals.

Harnish, a native of York, Pa., notched an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 500 freestyle and B cuts in two additional events. Harnish placed second in the 500 freestyle in an A-cut time of 4:35.69, which ranks fourth in the nation this season and sixth all-time in the Georgia record book. She came in second in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 200 backstroke.

Georgia’s teams are idle until the Tennessee Diving Invitational Jan. 3-5 and a dual meet against LSU at Gabrielsen Natatorium on Jan. 13.
