The Georgia women’s swimming & diving team will have 14 swimmers representing the University in the NCAA Championships on March 22nd to March 25th Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Lady Bulldogs will be vying for their eighth national title March 15-18 in Indianapolis, Ind. Georgia won national championships in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013, 2014 and 2016. In the last 18 years, the Lady Bulldogs finished first or second at the national meet 15 times.
Chelsea Britt, Veronica Burchill, Emily Cameron, Caitlin Casazza, Meg Finnon, Megan Kingsley, Meryn McCann, Katherine Parker, Stephanie Peters, Meaghan Raab, Olivia Smoliga, Kylie Stewart, Chantal Van Landeghem and Rachel Zilinskas will be competing in swimming events for the Lady Bulldogs.
Smoliga earned NCAA titles in the 50 freestyle in 2014 and 2016 and in the 100 freestyle in 2016. Van Landeghem anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay in 2013.
Six Lady Bulldogs may swim the maximum three individual events at the NCAAs: Britt, Burchill, Cameron, Raab, Smoliga and Stewart. Kingsley, McCann, Van Landeghem and Zilinskas are entered in two events apiece. Swimmers also may compete on up to four of the five relays.
Wednesday’s announcement, however, does not mean the Lady Bulldogs’ NCAAs roster is set. McKensi Austin, Olivia Ball, Madison Duvall, Allison Greene and Kelly Thatcher will compete Monday through Wednesday in the Zone B Diving Championships at Auburn as they attempt to join their swimming counterparts in the national meet.
Georgia, Stanford and Southern Cal have the most swimming entries with 14 each. Cal and Texas A&M both have 13, followed by N.C. State with 11, and Michigan and Texas with 10 apiece.
Georgia has four seniors, five juniors, one sophomore and four freshmen entered in the national meet.
The meet selections for the men’s NCAAs will be announced next week. Their national meet will be March 22-25 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
