The Georgia men’s swimming and diving team will have 13 participants at the NCAA Championships later this month, according to an announcement made Wednesday by the NCAA.
The NCAAs will take place March 23-26 at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Center. Seventh a year ago, the Bulldogs have placed in the top 10 at the NCAAs seven times in the past eight seasons.
Twelve swimmers made the field for the Bulldogs: Gunnar Bentz, Pace Clark, Taylor Dale, Matias Koski and Jay Litherland all reached the automatic qualifying standards, while Powell Brooks, James Guest, Kevin Litherland, Mick Litherland, Garrett Powell, Ty Stewart and Michael Trice were invited based on their provisional qualifying times. The Bulldogs may be able to add relay-only alternates in the coming days.
Earlier this week, diver Ian Forlini also qualified for the NCAAs during the Zone B Championships.
Jay Litherland enters the NCAAs with the nation’s fastest time this season in the 400 individual medley.
Koski is the defending NCAA champion in the 1,650 freestyle. Georgia has had at least one male or female individual or relay winning an NCAA title each year starting with 1995.
The women’s NCAAs will be held next Wednesday through Saturday at Georgia Tech.
