Chase Kalisz posted the fastest time in the world this year in winning the 400-meter individual medley to highlight Georgia’s showing on Thursday in the Phillips 66 National Championships at The Natatorium.
 
 
Kalisz, who completed his collegiate eligibility in March, posted a time of 4:06.99 as he claimed the title. Second place went to Jay Litherland, a rising senior for Bulldogs, as he touched in 4:09.31, which ranks fourth in the world this year.
 
 
Kalisz and Litherland, who were 2016 Olympians, landed spots on the United States’ roster for the World Championships next month in Hungary.
 
 
Another 2016 Olympian, rising senior Gunnar Bentz, claimed third in 4:11.66. That is the eighth-fastest time in the world this year.
 
 
Taylor Dale, who ended his Georgia career in March, came in fifth in the men’s 50-meter back with a time of 24.93.
 
 
In the women’s 400-meter individual medley, rising senior Meaghan Raab came in 13th with a time of 4:46.69.
 
 
Rising sophomore Veronica Burchill touched in 59.34 to win the consolation final and take ninth in the women’s 100-meter butterfly. Former Lady Bulldog Hali Flickinger came in 15th in 1:00.05.
 
 
Rising senior Kylie Stewart went 28.68 for 10th in the women’s 50-meter backstroke.
 
 
Pace Clark, who capped his Georgia career in March, placed 14th in the men’s 100-meter butterfly.
 
 
Incoming freshman Danielle Della Torre, who needed two swim-offs just to advance to the evening session, came in 22nd in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 32.43.
 
 
The Phillips 66 Nationals will continue Friday and will conclude Saturday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. All prelims and finals will be streamed on USASwimming.org. Finals also can be seen live on Universal HD at 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. on NBC (taped).
