The young but extremely talented Alabama quarterbacks seem to be the topic of conversation for at least a minute in every interview this week. It is a reasonable theme considering that Georgia has to face the dual-threat quarterback for the second time this Saturday.

Tagovailoa came into the season ranked as the #2 QB in the nation despite never starting in a collegiate football game. He currently has the #1 passing efficiency with a rating of 212.5.  Although Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is not far behind him at #3 with a rating of 179.4, Tagovailoa has proved that he belongs at the top of the QB food chain. For now.

Georgia DT Michael Barnett described Tagovailoa as a “student of the game” meaning that he has learned not only his own teammates’ habits but also has the ability to read defenses quickly and effectively.

Fromm offers a slightly more personal insight describing them as “really good friends.”

“He is an awesome competitor, a really great football player and a great follower of Jesus,” said Fromm. The friendship started during the Elite 11 process when they were seniors in high school.

A game changer for the Bulldogs would be if they could make Tagovailoa uncomfortable in the pocket. Head coach Kirby Smart said that while it would be beneficial it is also risky.

“To do that you have to take a lot of chances, and there are some good players back there behind those chances you’re taking,” Smart said. “They also have the ability to expose you when you’re not balanced up on the run.”

Tagovailoa has impressed the nation with his unfaltering skill and confidence. The question that remains is this: will be able to maintain his composure when faced with the SEC East Champions in Mercedes-Benz Stadium this coming weekend?
