Here are a few things we learned after watching Georgia’s win over MTSU Saturday.

Receivers:

We learned that Georgia is loaded at receiver. It was nice to see fresh faces in the end zone as Jeremiah Holloman, Tyler Simmons, and Jayson Stanley all scored for the first time. One thing you’ll notice about these guys is the physicality they bring to blocking at wide receiver. Jeremiah Holloman specifically had a break out game with 3 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. This is a big reason why Kirby Smart plays these guys and why they will be getting more reps in the future.

Running Backs:

Georgia continues to show off its running back depth. Elijah Holyfield is finally proving his abilities on the field after waiting in line two years. He currently leads the team in rushing and had a few shifty runs against MTSU that were eye opening including a 66 yard run in the opening drive. He is going to be solid for Georgia as the season continues. Brian Herrien is another formidable back that runs hard and makes plays every time he touches the ball. James Cook got some reps late in the game, but he’s the fourth man to go in and there is no talent drop-off. Georgia is in good hands here.

Mecole Hardman:

Hardman’s been looking for the end zone on special teams for awhile now. He finally got a punt return touchdown against MTSU after being a shoestring away all last season from taking several back to the house. Kirby Smart jokingly said in his post game press conference that if the punter would have tackled Mecole then, “We might’ve had to make a change back there.” Right now Hardman is quietly putting up some insane stats. He’s Georgia’s leading receiver and after the punt return touchdown Saturday he’s just showing off now.

Justin Fields:

Seeing Fields get some considerable playing time is a nice sight. Early on Fields trusted his legs like freshman often do, but once he became settled in the pocket he made several downfield strikes. It was a good glimpse of what we can expect from Fields once he gets comfortable operating the offense. The added dimension of his legs is something that can not be overstated. It gives him the ability to avoid sacks that would be impossible for Jake Fromm to escape which makes him a serious weapon for Georgia.
