Georgia head coach Kirby Smart responded to a question about the targeting rule at a recent appearance in Macon. Coach Smart, like many observers, seems to be conflicted when it comes targeting. As a defensive coach he has seen players penalized and/or ejected from games when it was clear that they did not actually intend to target an opponent. But, also as a coach, he understands that the rule is about the safety of his players.
