Before Missouri could even record an out, Georgia had the bases loaded on Sunday afternoon. Following a loss on Friday night and a nail-biting win in extra innings on Saturday, Georgia brought a different energy to the game on Sunday. The Bulldogs improved to 26-13 (9-9) with a 9-4 win over the Tigers in the last leg of a three-game set.

Garrett Blaylock was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning to give Georgia a 1-0 lead. Chaney Rogers later stepped to the plate with two outs and ripped a three-run double down the right field line, which quickly gave Georgia a commanding 4-0 lead after one inning.

Connor Tate then launched a solo home run in the top of the third inning off of the left field light pole at Taylor Field, a ball that would have landed well beyond the bullpen. Tate continues his breakout season and is now establishing himself as one of the best hitters in the conference. He leads the team with a .362 batting average and has a team-high nine home runs on the season.

Missouri clawed back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Tigers then had runners on first and second with no outs, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. In one of the most bizarre plays of the year, one of Missouri’s base runners passed the runner in front of him – which is an automatic out – after the ball went over Ben Anderson’s head in center field. So instead of having the bases loaded with no outs, the Tigers had runners on second and third with one out.

Freshman pitcher Jaden Woods then got the next two batters to strike out, which effectively ended the threat without allowing a run. Frustration boiled over for Tigers manager Steve Bieser who was ejected on one of the strikeout calls when the home plate umpire made the call on a checked swing. Woods ended up pitching four crucial innings for Georgia, only giving up one run.

Georgia then came back with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from both Rogers and Connor Tate again. Rogers finished with four RBIs in the game. Georgia head coach Scott Stricklin said that Rogers, “had a great weekend.”

Georgia has now won its last three SEC series’ despite Missouri (12-25, 5-13) proving to be a tough test. The Bulldogs’ offense has been the biggest reason for that streak. They are now certainly in contention for a postseason birth and will have the Auburn Tigers coming to Athens next weekend. Auburn is currently 3-14 in conference play, so it seems like Georgia could continue its streak.

First, Georgia will have to play in-state foe Georgia Tech for the first time this season at Foley Field on Tuesday. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
