Texas A&M’s head coach Jimbo Fisher has been around football for a long time, and it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about developing talent.
On Tuesday, during Fisher’s weekly teleconference he talked about how good of a quarterback Fromm is, and what he expects to see from him on Saturday.
“He is a very good football player, and he is smart. He’s a winner,”Fisher said. “He’s sneaky athletic, and can run with his legs. Everybody thinks of him as a pocket guy, but he makes plays with his legs and can keep the play alive. He makes great decisions with the football, and understands situations. He does a great job of getting them in and out of the right things, and is a very great quarterback.”
Entering the contest against Texas A&M, Fromm has been almost flawless since the blundering loss to South Carolina. Since that loss, Fromm has thrown seven touchdowns in the last four games compared to no interceptions. Against the Gamecocks, he threw three INTs, and one was returned for a touchdown.
It seems like Georgia fans have put a lot of faith in their quarterback since that game, and he has made some big-time passes in that span. Against Missouri, Fromm threw a beautiful downfield ball to freshman receiver George Pickens for a score. And last week the first touchdown strike to Dominick Blaylock was a perfectly thrown strike.
“Fromm is selfless, makes all the throws, makes all the runs, all he does is make the right decisions, takes care of the football and they win games and move the football,” said Fisher.
Fromm is 33-6 at Georgia coming into Saturday’s game against the No. 24 Aggies. Against Top 25 teams, Fromm is 11-5. If he continues his level of play he is going to write his name into the Georgia football history books. Currently, he is ranked third all-time in touchdown passes (70), fifth in passing yards (7,332), and fifth in pass completions (556).
This season he has been working with a completely depleted receiving unit. Blaylock, Cager, Kearis Jackson, and Tyler Simmons have all been hurt or battled injuries this year. Cager especially, as he has been Fromm’s favorite target this season. The junior has found several other targets too like tight ends Charlie Woerner, and Eli Wolf. Wolf has come up huge with clutch catches against Florida and Auburn. Even running backs D’Andre Swift and Brian Herrien have been effective catching the ball out of the backfield.
This Saturday could possibly be Fromm’s last game in Sanford Stadium as some Georgia fans wouldn’t be shocked if he waived the right to play his senior season, and declare himself for the NFL draft. Either way, come Saturday Fromm will sure bring his “A” game despite all the noise.
