The Dawg Bones – Georgia vs. Middle Tennessee

Deandre Baker (18) races with an interception for a TD as Tyler Clark (52) begins the celebration

Offense Dawg Bone: Georgia

Georgia receives the offensive Dawg Bone because it’s going to score a lot of points. The team averages 43 points a game. Georgia averages 277.5 yards on the ground and 213 yard in the air. Expect a lot of points scored and a lot of folks being utilized on the offense.

The Bulldogs should have no problem scoring points on Saturday. Jake Fromm and Justin Fields will likely split series like they did in game one. However, it’ll be the running game that will shine. Georgia has three running backs with over 100 yards. D’Andre Swift has 107 yards with two scores, James Cook has 104 yards, and Elijah Holyfield has 100 yards with two scores. The running game is evenly matched and continues to get stronger each week. Georgia had another 200 yard running game against Middle Tennessee State and a few more scores.

Defense Dawg Bone: Georgia

The Bulldogs are already one of the top defenses in the country. Georgia ranks as the No. 11 total defense giving up 244 of total offense and the No. 13 rush defense giving up on average just 72 rushing yards a game. Georgia’s secondary will have to handle yet another pass-heavy team. The Blue Raiders average 287 yards in the air, so look for them to challenge the secondary.

Richard LeCounte leads the team in tackles with 9 solo tackles and 13 total. Monty Rice is right behind him with 7 solo and 12 total. These two shine in tough situations and expect them to continue that this week. However, you cannot forget about J.R. Reed and Deandre Baker who each collected an interception against the Gamecocks and expect them to do it again this week. Georgia’s defense must continue to be aggressive, win in the trenches and cause turnovers.

Special Teams Dawg Bone: Georgia

Jake Camarda and Rodrigo Blankenship are likely the best kicker/punter duo in the country. The freshman punter averages 48.17 yards a kick, but already has three punts for 50 plus yards. Once he learns how to control his leg, Georgia opponents won’t be able to do anything but call a fair catch. As for Blankenship, he’s kicked 15 kickoffs and 15 of those were touchbacks. These two set opponents deep in their own territory, which allows the defense to make plays.

Coaching Dawg Bone: Georgia

Kirby Smart continues to get the Dawg Bone because he’s shown so far what having a well, coached team will do for a program. He doesn’t let outside noise in and has managed to keep his team focused. As long as Georgia continues to stay disciplined and focused, Smart will continue to get the coaching Dawg Bone.

Overall Dawg Bone: Georgia

Georgia gets the overall Dawg Bone because it should handle Middle Tennessee State like a business deal. There should be no nonsense or stupid mistakes. After last weeks butt whopping, the crowd will be ready and extra loud. It’ll be the first night game of the season and an ample opportunity to utilize a lot of freshmen again and improve to 3-0 on the season.
