DAWG BONE OFFENSE – GEORGIA

Jake Fromm is gaining momentum and Saturday’s game against Tennessee was his best performance of the season. The offensive line gave Fromm all day in the pocket and his accuracy and decision making continue to be elite. The Volunteer defense was only able to muster two tackles for loss, zero sacks and zero quarterback hurries. Fromm is finding a rhythm with his receivers and that is terrible news for the Dawgs opposition. The Gamecocks are coming off a bye week and their best rushing performance of the season was the week prior against Kentucky with Rico Dowdle and Tavien Feaster both surpassing the 100-yard mark. Receivers Bryan Edwards, Josh Vann, and Shi Smith are threats on the outside capable of taking the top off the defense. South Carolina’s offense is the most well-rounded unit the Dawgs have faced this season. However, UGA takes home the Dawg Bone on offense because Jake Fromm is playing the best football of his career and is significantly better than Ryan Hilinski.

DAWG BONE DEFENSE – GEORGIA

Georgia versus South Carolina has all of the markings of a physical slugfest. Georgia will potentially be missing a big piece of the puzzle on defense if Jordan Davis is unable to play after suffering an ankle injury against Tennessee. He is Georgia’s best anchor at the point of attack and the staff will have to make adjustments against a South Carolina running game that is hitting its stride. Also, the UGA secondary will face a tremendous challenge against the Gamecocks receivers. It would be a huge boost if Tyson Campbell is able to return healthy. The South Carolina defensive line is their best unit on that side of the ball. They need to occupy blockers in the run game and get pressure on Fromm so their defensive backs don’t need to cover for long periods of time. This helps to hide deficient linebacker and secondary units that are sub-par by Will Muschamp’s standards. Georgia wins the defensive Dawg Bone because UGA has more size, speed, and depth at all three levels of defense.

DAWG BONE SPECIAL TEAMS – TIE

Rodrigo Blankenship may need a new nickname if he continues kicking the way he is this season. Every one of his field goals is like one of Kevin Kisner’s drives right down the middle of the fairway. On the other hand, Jake Camarda’s punting is like Bubba Watson’s driving, you never quite know which way the ball is going. The Dawgs return game has also been non-existent to this point in the season. South Carolina’s special teams have also been solid but far from spectacular through the first six weeks of the season. The Dawgs and Gamecock’s share this Dawg Bone because neither unit has made game-changing plays.

DAWG BONE COACHING – GEORGIA

The Dawgs easily take home the coaching Dawg Bone because the Georgia staff is incredible at second-half adjustments. In the last two weeks the Dawgs have come out of the locker room in the third quarter and throttled their opponents. Also, this staff has a 100% buy-in from their players and they appear to genuinely love playing for the man standing next to them. Will Muschamp has had this game circled on his calendar since the moment the clock struck zero last season in Columbia. Unfortunately for him, he has struggled mightily against Top 10 teams as a head coach, often suffering embarrassing losses.

DAWG BONE OVERALL – GEORGIA

Georgia wins the overall Dawg Bone against South Carolina because the Dawgs are starting to hit their stride. It is only a matter of time until the Dawgs play a 60-minute game and when they do it is going to be a sight to behold. The Gamecocks are still trying to establish an identity and Saturday in Athens is not a place where they will find it. Simply put, the Dawgs are far superior to the Gamecocks.
