The Path to Glory Falls on Stetson Bennett’s Shoulders

As Georgia prepares to compete for another SEC Championship, the Dawgs are looking to break into stride for the most critical part of the season. The Bulldogs have taken care of business all year, as their 12-0 record clearly demonstrates, but unlike their famed 2021 campaign, Georgia has experienced a few more tests than they did last season. Now, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This is a resilient group of Bulldogs and having to deal with adversity before the biggest stage of the season can certainly pay dividends. The bottom line is this team will go as far as Stetson Bennett takes them. He has demonstrated his ability in a multitude of big games throughout his illustrious Georgia career, but it’s time to do it again.

Bennett has had the most successful season as a quarterback since Aaron Murray’s junior season back in 2012. Bennett so far has amassed 3,151 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and 7 rushing touchdowns. Most importantly, he is 12-0 on the season. Bennett has won games this year for the Bulldogs through the air and on the ground which is something that no other quarterback has been able to do since DJ Shockley.

Bennett has a remarkable record in meaningful games. This season alone against Oregon and Tennessee, Georgia’s two toughest opponents, Bennett has thrown for 625 yards 5 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. LSU, despite a horrendous loss at Texas A&M, presents a physical and explosive defense that can cause problems. Against Tech and Kentucky in the past few weeks, the passing game has not been effective. Although there are numerous reasons why this is the case that aren’t directly tied towards Bennett, the Dawgs cannot expect to win another championship through a limited passing attack.

However, if there is one thing Stetson Bennett has proved throughout his Georgia career, it’s that he’s not fazed by the big game or the big moment. The one achievement Georgia’s senior class is yet to accomplish is winning an SEC Championship. Through a dynamic game plan that Todd Monken will surely put in place, Stetson Bennett is ready and capable to deliver a conference championship back to Athens.
