The “Wren” Is In: Class Of 2020 3-Star Louisiana Speedster ATH Commits To The Georgia Football Program – By Matthew Hall

On a day that has brought about a great deal of disappointment for the Georgia Football program with the news of now former UGA WR Jeremiah Holloman being dismissed from the team based off of allegations of assault and battery, not all is lost. The Dawgs up its second commitment in as many days as Class of 2020 3-Star ATH Corey Wren of John Curtis High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, announced his decision via Twitter around 8 P.M. EST this evening.

The Louisiana product is the 15th commitment in the Georgia Football program’s current recruiting Class of 2020. With his commitment now in the books, the Dawgs still maintain a tight grip and hold on the #4 slot with respect to Team Class Ranking per 247Sports.

Corey Wren is currently rated the #35 overall ATH and the #23 overall player in the state of Louisiana for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. If there be any drawback surrounding the new Georgia Football recruit it would be in terms of his size and stature as Wren stands in at 5-9 and 170 pounds. Yet where the “Pelican State” prospect is lacking in physical size, he more than makes up for in his elite speed and with his playmaking ability. Aside from his game on the gridiron, Wren is also a track standout that logged 3 Junior season 100-meter times in the 10.4’s while garnering some 7 total sub-11.00 times. He is a two-time Louisiana Division I indoor 60-meter champion with his best time in that event coming in at a 6.80. With all that speed in his possession, Wren does indeed plan to run track in college as well.

As a Junior in 2018 on the gridiron for John Curtis High, the 3-Star Louisiana ATH rushed for 886 yards on 82 carries and 10 rushing touchdowns. He further added 95 receiving yards on 7 receptions and 1 touchdown by way of a punt return. Wren is shifty, elusive, and is very dangerous once given a crease to run through and in the open field. The 3-Star ATH is underrated in many respects and can be placed all around on the football field given the need to fill a spot as he plays running back, wide receiver, and on special teams. In many ways his style of play can be likened to the recently departed Mecole Hardman but one could also draw many comparisons to former Georgia WR/ST Isaiah McKenzie.

Wren chose to commit to the Bulldogs over both Arizona State and Houston this evening, but the speedy star had some 29 offers in total exhibiting that many collegiate football programs were in desire of his services. His commitment also signals the end of the of Georgia Wide Receivers Coach Cortez Hankton’s grouping at the position for the Class of 2020 and it could not have come at a better time with the recent news of Holloman’s departure from the team and the program breaking. Look for Wren to come in and be a versatile tool in many different avenues and ways from receiving, special teams, and who knows, maybe even a little at the running back position. The “Wren” is in, now who will be the next man up to “Commit To the G”? At this rate and pace of commitments to the Georgia Football program, one may not have to wait to long to find out.
