But just about everyone knows the jersey! We identify our gridiron heroes by their numerical moniker. And in a way, unless otherwise retired, each carries the torch for their forbearer and brings honor to THE NUMBER!

It has been associated with some of the most storied athletes, individual efforts, and great plays in Bulldawg lore! From the famous “flea-flicker” vs. the reigning National Champions to “Run Lindsey Run!” “24” is very special to Georgia fans.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Elton Robert “Bob” Taylor, who lettered for Georgia from 1963 – 1965, scampered 73-yards for the winning touchdown against the Crimson Tide to give the Dawgs an 18 – 17 win in Athens on the famous “FLEA FLICKER” from Moore to Hodgson to Taylor; which was the 1^st televised game in Sanford Stadium.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Kent Lawrence helped UGA secure its first SEC title under 3^rd year coach Vince Dooley. He also scored the 1^st points in the 1966 Cotton Bowl with a 74-yard touchdown run vs. the old Southwest Conference SMU Mustangs in the opening minutes of the game.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Jimmy Shirer was a one man gang, having played running back, wide receiver, and even punted for the Dawgs. Shirer was a party to wrecking Tech in 1971 at Grant Field and played a pivotal role in the final drive that went 65 yards to give Georgia a 28 – 24 victory.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Horace King was a Georgia running back, playing for not only his home state, but his hometown of Athens, Georgia. He donned the “Red & Black” from ’72 – ’74, averaging just over 4.5 yards per carry.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Lindsay Scott, outta Jesup, Georgia is probably one of UGA’s biggest heroes. His four year career is filled with “moments” that brings fans to those days of glory. From his freshman outing against Tech, to his 99-yard kickoff return against LSU, to that “miracle” in the Cocktail Party, Scott may be the most influential player to have ever worn 24!
[su_spacer size=”40″] Larry Ware, was a workhorse for Georgia at the tail end of the 80’s and headed into the 90’s. Ware came to Athens out of the state of Alabama and averaged over 5 yards a carry for his career.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Knowshon Moreno showed up in Athens by way of the “Garden State”. Although redshirted due to a bevy of runners in Georgia’s backfield, when he got on the field, he made his presence known. Moreno gave us many “superman”-type moments in his career; including his 1^st touchdown leap during the annual battle against the Gators. Moreno finished his Georgia career with over 2,700 yards rushing in only 2 seasons of play.
