We’re working off of a clean slate now. The regular season is done, and past win-loss records couldn’t help you even if you cried about it. It’s UGA versus LSU in the Merecedes-Benz Stadium playing for the SEC Championship today, and that means it’s time for December to ask what the Dawgs were doing all summer.
From Georgia’s side of things the story is going to be about how will Stetson Bennett and company deal with this shifty LSU defensive front and how the Dawgs’ defense will put a stop to Jayden Daniels afternoon before it can get started.
Now offensively, the Dawgs will have to be cautious in rushing Tiger quarterback Jayden Daniels. It’s not like they haven’t faced another mobile or athletic quarterback to this point in the season, but you never know how someone will play until you see them on the field.
To their credit LSU’s offense should create some problems, but it’ll be how Georgia answers that’ll end up being the deciding factor.
The Tigers’ front boasts names like Harold Perkins and Ali Gaye, but someone the Georgia faithful may be familiar with is the likes of BJ Ojulari, brother to former Bulldog and current New York Giant Azeez Ojulari.
Now Harold Perkins has become the face of this defense since his 4 sack, 2 forced fumble Arkansas game shed light on the already electric freshman season he was having, but BJ Ojulari has been holding it down on the edge for the Tigers for a while now. He’s consistently gotten sacks in his three years playing in the Bayou, and he won’t want it to stop now.
If Perkins winds up getting most of the protection’s attention, Ojulari and others might just get the opportunity to get to work. Stetson Bennett’s legs will be a much needed counter if this is the case.
Running like they have all season will discourage LSU’s pass rush and eventually make way for the classic Brock Bowers/ Ladd McConkey touchdown play.
Winning this game would mean more to the team than fans can think. Most of the guys on this roster haven’t won an SEC Championship yet, so they’ll have every reason to give the Bayou Bengals hell this afternoon.
