Georgia’s Tiaria Griffin was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Lady Bulldogs to victories over Missouri and Auburn. Griffin and Tennessee’s Cierra Burdick were selected as this week’s honorees by the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.

Last week, Griffin scored a team-high 16 points in wins over both sets of Tigers. She did so by connecting on 50.0 percent of her 3-point attempts and 87.5 percent of her trips to the free throw line.

Griffin, a 5-7, guard from Monticello, Mississippi, connected on 4-of-8 shots from the floor, 3-of-6 3-pointers and 5-of-5 free throws against Missouri. Griffin scored 11 second-half points in just 12 minutes of playing time.

At Auburn, Griffin scored seven points in an 11-5 Georgia run that turned a one-point deficit into a five-point win. With the Lady Bulldogs trailing 47-46 with 3:44 remaining, Griffin hit back-to-back 3-pointers in a span of 55 seconds to put Georgia ahead for good. She also notched team highs of two assists and three steals versus the Tigers.

Griffin has now led Georgia offensively in five consecutive games since the holiday break. In stats for SEC games only, she ranks No. 4 in scoring (15.3 ppg) and leads the league in field goal percentage (.512), 3-point percentage (.500) and 3-pointers per game (3.0).

Overall, Griffin is averaging 12.1 ppg. She has recorded a team-high 13 double-digit scoring performances and has paced Georgia offensively in a team-best nine games.

Georgia, which climbed to No. 18 in this week’s Associated Press poll released on Monday, will return to action Thursday when they face Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. The Lady Bulldogs’ next home game is this Sunday against Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. ET. The first 750 fans in attendance this weekend will receive a free Georgia iPhone 5 case.
